BB Senshi Sangokuden Koumei ReGZ Part 1

Paint till your eyes drop ^^;

I bought this BB Senshi Sangokuden Koumei ReGZ a few months after Shiba-I Sazabi. Back then Shiba-I was the only BB Senshi Sangokuden kit I have, so Koumei ReGZ being his rival seemed like a natural choice for me. I was also very interested in his transformable fan, which comes with a clear stick to mount it to the backpack as well.

The BB Senshi Sangokuden line is "upgraded" to 600 Yen per-kit with Koumei as the first release, but that didn't really bothered me either.

The truth is, I think I wasn't quite prepared for the amount of paint job required after I got the kit ^^;

At this point, I have pretty much finished all the painting for this kit, but I'm going to break down the reviews anyway, so that I could talk about more parts for the kit.

Showing you the progress of my BB Senshi Sangokuden Koumei ReGZ before the final assembly.

All 57 parts including polycaps. Cutting them off their runners took just a few minutes, painting them took me more than two weeks. ^^; Goodness!

Not only is the many patterns hard to paint, several parts require different colors here and there. Quite a few of them needs white paint on deep blue surface. The arms and the body especially. Tai-hen na~ ^^;

For the parts painted gold above, I use Gundam Marker Gold from Gundam Marker BB Senshi Set. Gold is the only color I used from that set actually. There are parts that require red and blue paints, I used markers from SEED Basic Set instead.

Paper clips prove to be very useful as my assistant in the process. With them, I can avoid touching the wet paint, and even when letting them to dry, the paint won't touch the surface of the table and get ruined. It's easy to pick them up for inspection or painting again too. Highly recommended. ^^

Two types of mask included: ReGZ and Nu Gundam. Painted the chin red.

Only the tiny images on the side of the box provide some guides on the color to be painted. So, plenty of freedom for you on painting some parts actually.

Which part is the hardest you ask me? All of the above ^^; For the shoulder armors, those golden borders are tiny enough for my marker to spill over here and there (trimmed away later on plus touch up using Pilot Super Color Gold Extra Fine), those dragons are really hard to paint. ^^; Also, since they are in white, you need to paint the blue background first, followed by the gold dragons and borders.

The helmet is alright, just the 'crown' and the V-Fins are hard. The later two are molded in orange-ish yellow, doesn't really look like gold in my opinion. Can you keep this as the gold color for the helmet and paint the other parts with Gundam Marker? Not really, because Gundam Marker gives you a much darker gold, and the two doesn't look the same at all. Not one bit. So, for the painted version, the entire crown needs to be painted.

The sequence I followed was red, then blue for the deco in the middle of the crown, then gold for the rest.

The V-Fin is another huge trouble, ^^; particularly the red part. There's a bit of part where it's too close to the 'little branch' beneath it, which is unreachable for the tip of the Gundam Marker. The savior for this is a tooth pick with some paint on its tip.

The fan/falcon is very troublesome as well. But after the shoulder and the crown, I'm pretty much used to having hard time here and there with this BB Senshi kit. XD All the parts come in white, so whatever color you see above are from painting. However, the real concern is its ability to transform. That would most certainly scratch off some paint here and there, which is unavoidable.

Assembled with minimum snap fitting of the parts, just for me to see how the painting will look like after the final work.

First round of painting done! I also did panel-lining on several parts as well. Majority of the parts are done, except the body and waist. The parts painted in white need to go through one or two more layers before the blue base beneath them can be covered up more 'convincingly'.

Next round: body and touch-up on a few other parts.

Binal-Tech BT-22 Convoy featuring Dodge Ram SRT-10 Part 3 [Final]

Huhhuh~ Wasted for a week ^^;

Part 3 will be the last part of my review on Binal-Tech BT-22 Convoy.

Overall, I think this Convoy looks much better in its vehicle mode than the robot mode. ^^; It's not obvious when you look at him from the front, but from the back, with all the car's parts hanging, all in red some more, it would seemed that the transformation is too simple and the vehicle mode is still too obvious for Convoy.

In vehicle mode, when you look at the bottom of the car, all of Convoy's parts are showing and you can guess how it's going to transform; in robot mode, when you look at the back, all of the truck's parts are showing and you can guess how it's going to transform as well XD

Then again, it's still very beautiful.

The Kiss Players version has yellow eyes, this Binal-Tech has blue ones.

The dashboard is still visible, ^^; and the huge windscreen on the back is my least favorite parts for the robot mode.

The all-too important Autobots crest is only printed on both shoulders.

With the overall design emphasizing the vehicle more than the robot mode, I didn't expect Convoy to be as articulate as he actually turns out to be. It even has more movable joints than Transformers Movie 2007 Optimus Prime ^^

Movable parts include the head, waist, pelvis, knee (double joint), feet, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and finger. While each finger for the larger Movie 2007 version is movable, it loses out to this Convoy with its lack of waist and wrist joints.

Movable fingers

Although it has many joints, Convoy is not really good at holding many action poses actually. Because of the many metal parts on its body, weight is a huge issue. The most obvious weakness is the legs. The back of the legs (the cargo bed) is entirely metal, while the front (knee and feet for the robot mode) are plastic, so when bent, the weight from behind is too much for the feet joint to handle.

Maybe it's coolest pose is standing "just-like-that" in the first picture above ^^;

Stands a little taller than MG Char's Zaku II Ver. 2.0 (average MG height), but weights at least ten of the later I suppose :D

All good stuff as mentioned all this while, there are some weaknesses as well, for those who are thinking of getting this as well. Some of the flaws as observed on this Binal-Tech:

The hand just can't grip the gun well. ^^; The weapon just keeps on dropping out of the hand.
Should have had a plug designed (like that on Gunplas) to allow the weapon to be pinned to the palm.

The bumper keeps on falling due to its weight.
The bumper are made of metal but the joints are plastic. An obvious outcome ^^;

Who's coming next?

Hohoho ^^

Binal-Tech BT-22 Convoy featuring Dodge Ram SRT-10 Part 2

After the basic transformation yesterday, let's have a look at the transformation for Convoy.

Like the experience I had with Transformers Movie 2007 Optimus Prime, sme very simple step in the transformation sequence can become very confusing. Not because the instruction manual is poor, not because one couldn't understand Japanese, but the same attitude in handling Gunplas is really not applicable sometimes when playing with Transformers ^^;

Some time you really have to put in a lot of strength pulling out some parts, and get frighten here and there, getting scared that you might break the part. Of course they don't. That's the difference between Gunplas and Transformers I guess. But I can never get used to that I suppose ^^;

The radiator grille flips out to become the skirt armor.

Pull the blue parts up to reveal the feet hidden underneath them.

Rotate the blue parts to form the knee and leg armors.

Pull hard to separate the front of the truck and the cargo bed. Be prepared for a loud thud ^^;

Open the doors and separate the frame of the door from the truck's body.

Flatten the chairs inside. Two of them will form the back of the forearms, and the one in the middle will become the body.

The most confusing step: pulling out the arms.
Again, adequate amount of strength is expected. ^^ Rotate the chairs to fit the forearms.

Pull up the sunroof and flatten to form the back of Convoy.

Tilt the wheels inward and pull down the whole bonnet to form Convoy's body.

Tilt the bars of the cargo bed's door inward, and pull out the leg thrusters (?)

Separate the legs.

Final steps: fold the bumpers to become Convoy's shoulders, and rotate the head to the front

Transformation of the handgun. Just a few flips here and there. The easiest component in the whole process :D

Simple enough? I remember the first time transforming the big guy, it took me more than an hour, and half of the time was spent staring between the half-transformed Convoy and the manual wondering how to proceed. ^^; Maybe I was slow at understanding the manual. After the first and second tries, I could do it in less than ten minutes.

Sexiest Convoy? ^^

Articulation and action coming up in Part 3.
