Banpresto's Perfect Transformation Strike Valkyrie VF-1S Roy Focker's Unit Part 6

Powerful hip joints

Continuing with the review on Banpresto's Perfect Transformation Strike Valkyrie VF-1S Roy Focker's Unit after the previous posting, the configuration for the figure's Gerwalk and Battroid modes with the FAST Pack parts will the the focus this time. ^^

[Fighter → Gerwalk (with arms retracted)]

Strike Valkyrie VF-1S in fighter mode from the previous posting. ^^

(Left) The legs are detached from the underside of the wings. The leg boosters' mount rack is removed.
(Right) The legs are invertedly hinged at their thigh and knee levels

Done for this mode's configuration. ^^

The booster pack components, especially the right one with its double beam cannons act as counterweight to the forearm block that causes the back-heaviness issue on the "plain" Gerwalk mode shown in Part 3. With that troublesome issue out of the way, the figure in this form can stand firmly on the ground. ^^

[Gerwalk (with arms retracted) → Gerwalk (with arms expanded)]

Just like the transformation sequence shown in Part 3, the legs are detached from the underside of the wings (for the knees) and beneath the chest panel (for the thighs) first.

The shoulders are hinged to either side of the main body.

Contrasting design for the forearm tabs between that on the missile launchers and the ones beside the forearms is pretty interesting. ^^

Hand units and the gun pod as a handheld weapon are attached to the wrists.

[Gerwalk (with arms expanded) → Battroid]

The booster pack needs to be removed first.

The main figure itself is transformed into Battroid mode (the reversal of the first Gerwalk mode's transformation shown in Part 3).

Since there's no change to the backpack, the booster pack is reattached onto the back of the figure to complete the configuration. ^^

Despite the emphasis on the Battroid mode, I still feel that the fighter mode shown in the previous posting is still my favorite out of the three. ^^ The two Gerwalk modes and even the Battroid mode look fine, since the large size of all the FAST pack components allow them to be seen very easily on any of the three forms. Still, the excellent proportion design of the fighter mode (see Part 4), and the strong upgraded look provided by the FAST pack still make that particular mode my favorite. ^^

On a separate note, the strength of the hip joints and the thin hinges that extend from the chest is pretty amazing to be able to support the additional weight put onto the figure's back in Battroid mode. ^^ While the add-ons don't weight a ton, obviously, XD the concentration of new parts on the back, but nothing in front at the same time is very stressful for the hip joints. The ability for the really fragile-looking joints on this figure to take all the excess weight in their stride is definitely commendable. ^^

So far, this review series only focuses on the different forms of the figure for display purpose only, and the fragility and simplicity in the different modes' transformation design shown so far certainly implies the lack of articulation on the figure. ^^; Then again, it's definitely posable, and with the right adjustments and a display stand, it's capable of showing off a few interesting poses. ^^

A look at the figure's articulation design and some action poses in various modes coming up in the next posting. ^^
