Gundam Cafe Limited Coaster Set

A taste of Gundam Cafe

Very unproductive on Ex for quite a long time already - breaking the very long silence up here with an overdue posting. ^^

Here is the set of Gundam Cafe limited coasters from Zaku999 when I was in Singapore last month. He got them from the cafe in his trip over to Japan and was kind enough to gave one set to me, and another to LEon from Open the Toy.

If you don't know this already, Gundam Cafe is the official Gundam-themed cafe initiated by Bandai back in mid April. Situated at JR Akihabara Station, the cafe sells more than food and drinks. Various Gundam souvenirs can be obtained from there as well. The menu and souvenir list can be seen in this previous posting.

This coaster set is one of the souvenirs offered. 6 per set, randomly selected from 24 types featuring deformed face design of various MSs from the world of Gundam. While most MSs featured are from the One Year War era, Gundam Unicorn, Sinanju and Haro are also among the types you can get. Each set is 380 Yen (inclusive of tax).

The three of us (me, Zaku999 and LEon) looked at all the 12 coasters from the 2 sets at a local cafe during our outing and I personally pick my deck of the coaster to have more Zeon units XD

Has the official Gundam product sticker, no kidding ^^

The 6 types I got

Gundam RX-78-2 and Char's Customized Zaku II.

Zaku I and Gouf

Zock and Gyan

I'll never use the coasters for their actual purpose of holding glasses. ^^ They are too valuable for that. However, I do find them pretty cool-looking as display bases holding BB Senshi kits on top of them. ^^

Thanks to Zaku999 for the very nice present. LEon's review on his set of Gundam Cafe coaster can be seen on his own blog.

That's a great way to "use" the coaster. More fitting actually. However I felt BB grade look best on these coaster. Think HG or MG don't look so good. Maybe because BB look more comical like the coasters. :)
