The actual start to the foreseeably long series of painting and detailing on Kotobukiya's HMM Zoids 1/72 Red Horn after cleaning off all the parts' excess gates in the previous posting. ^^
A look at the parts to be painted:
Small sections of area on the head and frill parts to be painted gray.
As seen from the completed model's picture on the instruction manual, the different targeted areas have two different shades of gray actually. The side fins and nose section are in dark gray, while the frill bits and connector base have a lighter shade.
Side edges of the lower jaw part and a sunken panel beneath it are going to be painted gray as well.
Extensive painting and detailing planned for he plain-looking jaw parts.
The light brown molded color may make the line details hard to see, but it's going to be "helpful" in accepting the paints applied on it more easily. ^^
The interior of the mouth seems to be in gray/black as seen on the box art.
A quick test fitting of the major parts to see how the head would turn out when assembled. ^^
(Left) The two jaw parts are treated using Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color (Black) to highlight their molded line details.
(Right) With excessive panel liner solution rubbed away using cotton swab soaked with thinner.
A minor sunken area on either horn part to be painted gray.
Plenty of colors required for the High Pressure Concentrated Sulfuric Acid Powder Cannon mounted beneath the lower jaw.
All the maroon leg armor parts require varying amount of gray paint to realize their designated color scheme.
Gray paint is required to cover up about 90 percent of each of the two side panels for the body, which is the most extensive paint work I find out so far. The two vent parts on top the side panels would need gray paint for their fins as well.
Optional paint work: the missile tips inside these two black parts are going to be painted to highlight their details.
Similar to the leg parts, all the maroon tail parts have detail areas to be painted in gray.
Interestingly, and weirdly at the same time, these two vent-like parts to be attached to the back of the hind legs are supposed to be painted in fluorescent green. ^^
More optional paint work: the seats of the gunner cockpits/mini vehicles for recon, and detailing of the three pilot figures.
Red paint needed for the round protruding joints on the mounting arms for TEZ 20 mm Linear Laser Guns. The four laser guns' parts need some gray paint as well.
Plenty of colors needed for the five-part Composite Sensor Unit. ^^
Very much like the maroon leg armor parts, all the sunken details on the Anti-Zoid 3-Barreled Linear Cannon parts need to be painted gray.
An odd bit of details: a minor protruding bar on top the linear cannon's muzzles is to be painted red.
Light gray, gray and military green are needed for the three 3-Shot Surface-to-Surface Missile Pod parts.
Optional detailing: sensor-like parts to be mounted beside the backpack component.
A few colors needed for the sensor unit mounted on the 80mm Surface-to-Air Double-barreled Beam Cannon: light gray, yellow (on black part ^^;), and fluorescent green for the targeting scope.
Gold and silver required for the fixed piston on the joint part of the Anti-Zoid 3-Barreled Linear Cannon.
Many of the targeted parts to paint are panel lined using Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color (Black) first.
A few areas that required yellow paint are painted first, using Mr. Color GX 4 Chiara Yellow Gloss.
Parts that require light gray paint, including the two antennae, missle pods and horn are painted next, using Mr. Color 11 Light Gull Gray Semi Gloss.
The more minor part of the overall paint work was done first, and the main paint that is lacking among the selected parts, gray, has yet to make its appearance in this set of work. ^^
No worries, there are still tons of work to be done for Red Horn, and I barely scratched the surface with this posting. ^^ That bulk gray paint work will come in eventually. ^^

Have you ever considered painting the teeth silver? The box art looks that way...like blades :)

The teeth are not silver on the box art. They are in beige just like the hooves. If I paint the teeth silver, I would have to paint the hooves in that color too and I don't have plan for that.
Furthermore, Red Horn's design is based off either a styracosaurus or a rhinoceros, both which are herbivores. Having shiny, really sharp-looking teeth is not important for the completed model's image. ^^
