Among the many Japanese mecha anime titles, "Rebuild of Evangelion" has got to be the one with the widest commercial affiliation reach. ^^ When I was doing my previous blog, there were already loads and loads of products related to to the series. Normal stuff like model kits, action figures, figurines and gashapons are out of the question, and they are obviously not what I'm referring to in this posting. I've seen the series been linked to fast food set, canned coffee, sport shoes, specialized cafe, mini 4WD models, convenience store campaign, racing team, theme park and other areas which were very "refreshing" but understandable. All the said affiliates still appeal to the mass public and can be used to promote the movies.
Now this latest marketing affiliation is really unbelievable, even to me: ^^ Schick x Evangelion Campaign in Japan.
Seeing Gendo laughing like that is enough to creep me out, what do Rei, Asuka and Mari have to do with shaving products for men? XD
On a related note, I suppose Shinji is just too unmanly (even as compared to Rei, Asuka and Mari) to appear in the same promo image. ^^;
Already launched in Japan, the key chain figures and shaver holder seem really well done - no shabby craftsmanship at all since the whole campaign, as with all other marketing flicks with "Rebuild of Evangelion" are serious businesses. ^^ Promo videos featuring scenes from the movies voiced by some of the seiyuus are evidence to that. ^^

The campaign must be very successful as well, as Schick Japan is about to launch the second campaign, with the next shaver holder set to feature a figurine of
In all seriousness, it's all about commercial value of the movies and title. "Rebuild of Evangelion" is such a big hit in Japan that anything associates to it will sell. I think hardcore fans wouldn't mind having ten or more shavers and tons of razor packs just to collect all the prize items. In the business world, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. As long as it sells, why not eh? ^^
If Tetsujin 28 is still a huge hit today, we might just get a similar campaign featuring that giant robot shaving itself, XD and there would be nothing wrong about it. XD
Actually that would be pretty interesting to see. XD
