Random (79)

Kotobukiya has most of the good stuff I want from the current hobby show

Today's the second day of the 53rd All Japan Model and Hobby Show, currently ongoing at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall, Chiba. Given the wide coverage of the hobby show on various hobby sites, most of big releases were already revealed since yesterday morning. ^^ Personally, some of the most exciting model kit announcements can be seen at Kotobukiya's booth. ^^

D-Style Genesic GaoGaiGar - The over-the-top awesomeness of the mecha can be felt even on this unpainted, deformed scaled prototype. Given how the already released GaoGaiGar, and GaoFighGar are transformable, the same gimmick should be available on Genesic GaoGaiGar as well, which is just so incredible even on imaginary level. ^^

I was hoping that Tamashii Nations' recently revealed Super Robot Chogokin version would take on the same exaggerated design adopted by this D-Style version, especially since the action figure isn't going to be transformable. I find it weird that a transformable version in deformed scale would look so much better in projecting the mecha's powerful image than a non-transformable, normal-scaled action figure. ^^;

Frame Arms 1/100 scale Magatsuki (? - マガツキ) - The line art for this samurai mecha can be seen since quite a while ago, but the hobby show marks the first display appearance of its prototype kit. It shares many of its armor parts with Durga I (? - ドゥルガー), another new Frame Arms design on display at the hobby event, but I like Magatsuki's configuration for those armor parts better. Interestingly, Bandai Hobby Division also has a Samurai-theme kit planned for upcoming release - Sengoku Astray Gundam for the new Gundam anime series. ^^ As a big fan of Samurai-themed mecha design, the two of them are up on my to-get list. ^^

1/1 scale Usagia (? - ウサギア) from "Ichigeki Sacchu!! HoiHoi-san" - A new character in HoiHoi-san's universe! ^^ Looking at the announcement of this kit, I'm glad that Kotobukiya didn't discontinue the series after pretty much all the known characters were realized as plamo kits in the past. I'm anticipating the full color version of this character, but the mechanical look of the suit it's wearing is pretty interesting to me. ^^ The android look of Usagia is much more obvious that any of the previously released character in this series I think. ^^

Plenty of goodies to look forward to in the coming year. ^^
