HMM Zoids 1/72 Red Horn Part 4

When optional paint work and detailing is given priority

Continuing with the work on Kotobukiya's HMM Zoids 1/72 Red Horn after the previous posting: ^^

The targeted areas on the head and frill parts are painted using Mr. Gundam Color UG09 MS Gray Zeon Semi Gloss.

(Left) Minor protruding bits behind the frills, which are clearly the extension of the gray sections are painted as well.
(Right) The sunken panel beneath the jaw is painted using the same color.
This gray paint is of lighter shade and isn't the main one I'm thinking of using for most of the parts actually. ^^

Various parts painted red using Mr. Gundam Color UG04 MS Red Semi Gloss.
Besides the targeted areas on the beam gun mounting arms and linear cannon's muzzles, the rest are optional paint work I decided to add in at the eleventh hour. ^^

This is the first time Mr. Gundam Color UG04 MS Red Semi Gloss is featured in my plamo work, so this is how it looks like. ^^

I intended to use Mr. Color No. 158 Super Italian Red Gloss at the beginning, but found out before the actual work what remained of it had completely dried up. ^^;

The interior of the two jaw parts are painted using normal black markers with different tip sizes (for the flat areas and tight spots around the fangs) and panel liner.

A quick test fitting of the two parts to see how the jaw would turn out when assembled. ^^

Excessive panel liner solution on the pilot figure parts, which were treated using Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color (Black) earlier on is rubbed away using cotton swab soaked with thinner.

Closeups on the details.

(Left) The face parts are painted using Mr. Color 51 Flesh Semi Gloss.
(Right) The visors are painted using Mr. Color 175 Fluorescent Green Flat.

The parts are re-panel lined to cover up some minor spilled over paint.

Done for the detailing work on the three pilot figures.
Most of their details are re-panel lined the usual way to enhance their appearance.

The turret section of the 3-Shot Surface-to-Surface Missile Pod part, including the edges on the back is painted using Gundam Marker GM37 Zaku Light Green from the Zeon set.
The Zeon set was first featuerd in the work on MG Zaku II F2 EFSF Ver.

Realizing that GM35 Char Red is actually a more suitable color for the fixed joint parts on the beam gun mounting arms, said parts are repainted using that marker.

The two Gundam Markers used for the paint work above.

Another set of optional paint work identified at the last minute: the inner walls of the gunner cockpits should be painted gray to separate them from the outer body.

The slits and tight corners around the seats are panel lined using Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color (Black).

The gunner cockpits' thruster bases are going to be painted gray.

If the seats of the gunner cockpits are going to be painted, then the seat inside the main cockpit module should be painted as well.

Foil sticker pieces are added to the cockpit seat to enhance its appearance before the paint work.

The three seats are painted using Mr. Color 11 Light Gull Gray Semi Gloss.

The missile tips highlighted in the previous posting are painted using the same paint as well.

The line details on the two parts are panel lined using Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color (Gray).

Added a bit of metallic green foil stickers (from my spare foil sticker sheet collection) to the two parts as their targeting scopes. ^^

Simple panel lining for the other missile pod parts.

Test fitting the detailed parts to see how the missile pods would turn out when assembled. ^^

Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color (Gray) is also used to panel line the beam gun mounting arms.
The minor line details on top the painted joint parts are done using normal panel liner though.

The inner walls of the mini pods are painted using Mr. Gundam Color UG09 MS Gray Zeon Semi Gloss.

(Left) The details on the other side of the parts are done using a combination of normal panel liner and
Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color (Black).
(Right) Excessive gray paint near the edge of the parts is scratched away using a knife, before the details are panel lined using normal panel liner.

Two puny sunken dots on each part is painted silver using normal pen.
I've no idea what the details are meant to be, and what I want to achieve by painting them silver. XD

Not forgetting the tiny control modules for the mini pods: silver foil stickers are carefully measured, cut and added to the parts as monitors.

The 10-cent coin sitting beneath the two parts seems gigantic when compared to the two parts. ^^

More work on this large HMM Zoids kit to be covered in the next posting. ^^

The panel line solution is pretty cool. Nice work on the pilots.

Thanks! The Tamiya solution is indeed a very handy tool for panel lining. Highly recommended. ^^
