Returning to work on BB Senshi Sangokuden Asurao Moukaku Gundam, Syukuyuu Gundam and Kyoshin Elephant Set after an almost two-week hiatus. ^^
A direct continuation from Part 4, the focus of this batch of work is to clean up all excessive red paint on various parts of the kit and to follow up from there.
Excessive red paint behind Kongouyaka's ear parts can be easily removed using a cotton swabs soaked with thinner.
Syukuyuu Gundam's mouth area in Bishamon Mandala (毘沙門曼陀羅) mode requires a more delicate "touch" to clean. ^^ A sharpened toothpick is used instead.
Panel lines added for Syukuyuu Gundam's feet and V-fin parts.
Excessive red paint on Syukuyuu Gundam's chest part and Moukaku Gundam's skirt armor part is scratched off using a pen knife.
No panel line is added on them yet as more paint work is needed.
As with the front skirt armor part of Moukaku Gundam, the top portion and neck area of Syukuyuu Gundam need to be painted blue.
The parts are panel lined first before they are painted.
Painted the parts using a new paint.
Gaia Color 004 Ultra Blue Gloss. ^^
(Left) Panel lines reapplied to Syukuyuu Gundam's body parts when the paint has dried.
(Right) Test fitting the painted parts to see how the torso would turn out when assembled. ^^
Panel lines added for Syukuyuu Gundam's leg and arm parts as well, which were painted back in Part 2.
All the toes of Kongouyaka's legs would have to be painted. For the front toes, there's no line separating the toes and the sole, a missing detail that is similar to Syukuyuu Gundam's chest armor and her weapons,, Rasatsuhishourin (羅刹飛翔輪).
Since the situation is the same, the method used previously in dealing with the missing lines can be reapplied. The lines are cut using pen knife with a slice of double-sided tape acting as a ruler to guide the knife. Panel lines are drawn later to clearly identify the new lines. ^^
From the box side images, dark purple seems to be the color used for the toes. Since I don't have that paint, I'll have to mix it myself.
Based on my "color guide" - one of Kongouyaka's purple parts, ^^; a mixture of Gaia Color 034 Primary Color Magenta and Mr. Color No. 1 White Gloss seems alright to me as the substitute color. ^^;
Painted all of Kongouyaka's toes with the mixed paint.
Since there's quite a bit of leftover mixed paint, the bottom side of the hindfeet is painted as well.
(Left) Panel lines reapplied to the parts when the paint has dried.
Mixing paints to get a substitute color is always a challenging thing to do, since you'll never know if the color would turn out to be correct. ^^; For me, as long as the color looks similar and isn't too far off (very low standards I have ^^;), I'm fine with the mixture's result. Discarding the paints and try again is always an expensive option to me, so I usually test with a tiny bit from selected paints before going for the final mixture. Still, without using proper measuring tools, it's hard to control the tone of the mixed paint, so the final result may be very different than that of the initial trial. ^^;
