HG 1/100 Gundam Heavyarms Custom Part 3

So much gray needed on so many parts

Continuing the work on HG 1/100 Gundam Heavyarms Custom after the previous posting. ^^

If Part 2 is the culmination of some of the fun little things I had planned for the kit all this while, then all the "grunt" painting and detailing work will start from here on. ^^;

As most of the parts molded in gray are for the gatling guns and shoulder missiles, you can imagine how little the color is designed to be on parts of the kit itself, hence the need for a quite a bit of gray paint to be applied. ^^;

Some of the major line details on the four leg parts are panel lined first using Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color (Black).

Parts to be painted gray:

Vents next to the knee.

(Left) Inner face of the knee,
(Right) Rear side of the ankle guards and hip joint areas.

Fixed ankle joint caps.

Referring to the instruction manual, the top half of the back end of the foot pieces need to be painted white.

Fixed elbow joint caps.

Vents beneath the shoulder armors.

While they are not shown in the manual, I believe the exposed rear side of the shoulder armors when their missile pods are deployed should also be painted gray to match the color of the missiles themselves.

Vents on the side skirt armors - four on each side.

Rear sides of all the skirt armor pieces.

The screw-like details on the backpack and thrusters.

Vents on the chest armors

Foil stickers are included for the the cockpit hatch and front waist piece, but their folding edges would be too obvious when applied to the two parts. So, I opt to paint the parts light blue instead. ^^

The rear face of the chest armors.

Following the paint scheme shown in the manual (and for a little bit of convenience in the overall work ^^), the color for the missiles is going to be gray.
That means only six of the 12 pieces would need to painted. ^^

No paint work needed for the shoulder missiles since they are already molded in gray, ...

... but the ones on the leg and side skirt armors would definitely need to be painted

Even though it's not shown in the manual, I suppose it a no-brainer for the rear face side of the skirt armor missiles to be painted gray as well. ^^

Chest and head vulcans.

Secondary antennae (?)

All the colors on the option half-clown-face faceplate need to be painted, including the chin. ^^;

With excessive panel liner solution on the main leg parts rubbed away using cotton swab soaked with enamel thinner.

Simple panel lining on some of the other parts before starting the paint work.

All the parts to be painted.

The parts are painted using Mr. Gundam Color UG09 MS Gray Zeon Semi Gloss.

Closeups on the paint work applied to the parts.

The cockpit hatch and front waist piece are painted using Mr. Color 323 Light Blue Gloss.

Even though the paint used is light blue, it's still of a considerably dark shade as compared to the intended color scheme. ^^;

More paint work and detailing on this old 1/100 scale kit coming up next. ^^
