HG 1/144 Gundam Barbatos Part 3

Extra gray, extra gunmetal

Continuing with the work on HG 1/144 Gundam Barbatos after Part 2. ^^

As mentioned in that previous posting, dark gray for the mechanical areas on various parts is the main color to be painted this time. ^^

Plenty of parts to be painted, with a couple more not shown here too. ^^;

As usual, the targeted parts are detailed using a combination of normal panel liner and Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color (Black) before the paint work.

Delicate details on equally small face part of the kit. ^^

The dark gray paint to be used comes from a mixture of Mr. Gundam Color UG09 MS Gray Zeon, Gundam Marker dark gray from the Gundam SEED set and Gundam Marker black.
Since the mixed paint is unique, I have to make sure all the parts to be painted are covered, since it would be a really challenging task, a very troublesome one at that to recreate this formula just for one or two parts I missed. ^^;

Painted the targeted parts.

(Left) The small blank spots behind the knee armors are painted to give the areas a more cohesive look with the knee joints when the model is assembled later.
(Right) The protruding panels on the soles are painted to give the parts a more intricate look. The sunken area near the ankle joint is painted to make it appear to be part of joint, allowing the foot area to look thinner and sharper. ^^

(Left) The tiny splits between the rear skirt armor panels are painted using toothpick. ^^;
(Right) The interior of the part is painted to give the area a sense of depth.

As with the interior of the backpack weapon mount racks.

To match the painted interior of mount racks. the opened area of the backpack is painted as well.

Besides the small wrist segments, the inner side of the white hand parts is painted dark gray to connect the look to the hands instead of the armors.

Targeted areas on the face and chin parts are painted.

The side skirt armors and heel parts are painted red using Mr. Gundam Color UG04 MS Red Semi Gloss.

To match the calf and side skirt armor thrusters painted in Part 2, the main thruster's body is also painted gunmetal using Gaia Metallic Color No. 020 Gun Metal. ^^

Narrow slits and delicate details on various parts are detailed using Tamiya's Panel Line Accent Color (Black).

With excessive panel liner solution on the leg parts rubbed away using cotton swab soaked with thinner, and with additional line details added the usual way. ^^

Excessive dark gray paint on the thigh armor parts is scratched away using a knife after the paint has dried.
Simple panel lines are added to the parts.

The large blank area behind each front armor is painted black using normal marker to emulate depth for the hip joint area.

Testing fitting the two armor pieces to get a preview of how the thigh would look like when it's assembled later. ^^
The dark gray gap that "expands" into the lower edge of the rear piece is a pretty interesting detail design (details pointed in the left arrow in the right image). ^^

With most of the (major) paint work done in Part 2 and this posting, the rest of the work on this High Grade kit would be refinement on the details and panel lining. ^^

Have you tried Mr Color No.116 RLM66 black gray ?
It works pretty nice for any dark gray part.
