1/100 Duel Assault Shroud Part 5

Not losing its charm despite being as an aged Gunpla

Action poses of 1/100 Duel Gundam in this posting, which is somewhat like a revision on what older 1/100 scale model kits can do. ^^

With MG Aile Strike Gundam.

Life-changing moment for Yzak right there.

The action poses are pretty OK I would say. The lack of front skirt armor is quite a boost to the model kit's posability, as the legs face no restriction when moving forward. Years ago, I would say that this is an excellent model in terms of articulation, but after having to assemble the mighty posable 1/100 Gundam Astray Red Frame and Gundam Exia, or Legend Gundam that has redefined proportions and details, Duel Gundam seems quite average in terms of all its features. No comparison intended there, but the perception is hard to discard when posing the model kit. You think of a pose that Gundam Exia can do, which looks really good, but is not possible when you try it on this kit. That's when the unintended comparison comes in. However, I do appreciate the simplicity of the model kit. The lack of extra details on the armors for a larger scale kit such as this one does make it seem pretty cool. ^^ Come to think of it, there aren't many model kits that as simple looking as this fella nowadays anymore. ^^

Then again, this plain form is just half of what the model kit offers. Compared to the said advantages of the three other 1/100 Gunplas mentioned above, the Assault Shroud armor set is only available to Duel Gundam. While it lacks outstanding articulation or details, the freedom of putting on and casting off the armors is definitely what's special about this kit. ^^

Coverage on the armors will be in the next posting.

Hi there,

I think the Duel Gundam was a kind of assault base Mobile suit, ie close combat. Therefore the omission of front skirts to improve articulation like in the case of the exia and astray gundams.

The armour was provided to provide addition protection due to it being a close quarter assault MS.

I cannot help but notice the standard issue beam rifle of the Duel is also used by the Strike Noir Gundam. In fact Strike Noir uses 2 of those beam rifles.

If you are looking for another good articulated Gundam, the Blitz Gundam is another well designed gundam for a High Grade. It has got additional points of articulation in the feet.

Nice writeup and waiting to see the next post about it assault shroud armour :)
