S.I.C. Vol. 42 Kamen Rider Den-O Sword Form & Momotaros Imagin Part 1

Two figures, three forms

The S.I.C. Kamen Rider series has been missing from this blog since after the review on Vol. 54 Kamen Rider Ixa and Dark Kiva, which was almost three years ago. ^^; It's making a comeback with this old set. ^^

Vol. 42 is a set I bought back in July 2011, along with a couple other old and new Tokusatsu merchandises of the time. It's a very interesting set, even in the "Kamen Rider Den-O" sub-series as a whole, where many of the rider forms from the TV series and movies did receive their S.I.C. treatment. This is the only set with option parts to turn the main Kamen Rider figure from the default Sword Form to its base form, called Plat Form. So, including Momotaros Imagin, you get three forms out of two figures from this S.I.C. set, at 6,000 Yen (exclusive of tax). That sounds like quite a bargain right there. ^^

Much like Kamen Rider Gaoh from Vol. 48 Kamen Rider Gaoh & Kintaros Imagin set, I love the redesigned image for the Sword Form in this set. I think it added a lot of great details that fit the existing armor design very well. On the other hand, I like Momotaros Imagin as a character in the show, and it's certainly nice to have an action figure of him in my collection, not necessarily this S.I.C. set if you dislike the Sword Form (for whatever nonsense reason that may be XD). However, the inclusion of the Plat Form as mentioned earlier on really boosts the playability of Momotaros Imagin, as you can show him bossing and abusing Ryotaro in that base form. ^^ That really addresses the issue of "And what should I do with you?" I had with Kintaros Imagin from Vol. 48. ^^

Since this is one of my favorite S.I.C. set, I'm going to take my sweet time with the entire review, so do expect this to end in maybe a century from now. XD

Front view of the windowed box.

Due to the large clear window, almost everything included with the set can be seen without opening the box, which is really nice. ^^

Set name.

(Left) "Den-O" banners with lovely line details, printed in silver can be seen in the narrow gaps between the box edge and the front window on both ends of the box.
(Right) A 2008 S.I.C. set this is.

Comparison with a single-rider-two-form S.I.C. set, the really old Vol. 16 Kamen Rider RX & Kamen Rider Black.

Made in 2002 versus 2008 between the two sets. ^^

Despite the long gap between their release year, and based off different Kamen Rider series, there are many similarities in package design that can be observed between the two sets. ^^

Box open.

More images of Kamen Rider Den-O Sword Form still on the plastic tray.

More images of Momotaros Imagin still on the plastic tray.

All the option parts are revealed in full. ^^

Rear view of the box content.

Interestingly, there's a empty plastic tray right beneath the option part section. It's included as the support for that section I suppose, but it's a complete tray that is totally removable. ^^ It will come in handy for me to store all the option parts once I remove them from the tray. ^^

All the sellotapes and strings work wonder in keeping everything firmly in place on the tray. Nothing moves even when the tray is being held upside down. ^^

Straight out of box display of Kamen Rider Den-O Sword Form, and Momotaros Imagin.

Extra goodies not listed as part of the set: strings that are used to tie the figures to the tray.

The strings are straightened for storage.
They can be mighty useful for unexpected "applications", like the work on the Funnels of my HGUC Sazabi. ^^

A large backdrop with a super shiny foil surface. ^^

Taped to the back of the backdrop is a plastic container that holds the instruction sheet.

The figures' gimmicks, configuration and usage of all the option parts can be seen on the instruction sheet.

A product survey form is included as well.

Every S.I.C. set up to Vol. 41 Kamen Rider X & Apollogeist can be seen in the list of options for one of the survey questions. ^^

The extra plastic tray as mentioned earlier on.

It is indeed large and spacious enough to hold all the option parts and accessories. Very handy. ^^

A look at the two figures' accessories and option parts (not including the Plat Form armors and parts) in the next posting. ^^
