Gashapon MS Gundam Seed Destiny Heroines 7 Part 2

Lacus Clyne

Jumping away from the focus on Gunpla to something else this time, but is still Gundam related nonetheless. ^^

After starting with Lunamaria Hawke Type A back in late August, here's the review on another figure from MS Gundam Seed Destiny Heroines gashapon set: Lacus Clyne. ^^

A little bit of assembly required, as the figurine is being separated into a few parts.

The completed figurine of Lacus Clyne.

I have no memory of when Lacus Clyne was in this outfit in "Gundam SEED Destiny" actually, but I do remember Meer Campbell in a somewhat similar dress (in terms of its color), which was much more "outstanding" than this costume of Lacus in my opinion. ^^;

More closeups on the figure:

Like Lunamaria Hawke, Lacus comes with extra parts and configuration feature to allow the figure to be displayed in different forms.

Option arm set showing Lacus and her Haro autograph.
The print of her autograph on the small white pad is very clear and detailed. ^^

Part swapping for the arms requires the head and the cloak part of the dress to be removed first.

Lacus with her Haro autograph. ^^

Displayed without the cloak part.

The default right arm (without the pen) can be configure to compliment the Haro autograph type left hand I believe, but the idea just slipped my mind when I was taking the photos of the figurine. ^^;

The head can be turned to the sides to adjust Lacus's viewpoints for a little bit of change in angle of display.

Displayed with the much smaller version of herself from another gashapon set - HGIF Gundam Character 3 Vol. Gundam SEED Destiny, which is also one of gashapon sets I got from the trip down to Singapore in July last year. ^^

With Strike Freedom Gundam from capsule toy set M.S.G..

I like Lacus Clyne in "Gundam SEED" more than the same character in "Gundam SEED Destiny", even though in both series - that's about 100 over episodes in total, there's very little character development shown for Lacus that would help to support her appeal, as compared to say, Yzak Joule in "Gundam SEED" alone. Her pacifistic ideal is perhaps just as consistent as her beauty throughout the two series. ^^; While that may not be a totally bad idea in a story, it does however make it really difficult to associate with her as a character, because there's nothing she would ever do that is unpredictable or out of character.

I'm trying to refrain myself from calling her "boring" because, well, she is very beautiful and kind, and one never calls a bijin boring. XD

I don't think I really want to discuss her character in "Gundam SEED Destiny" because I think everyone in that anime was badly written. It was never a problem with any character in particular per se. Instead, the problem was with the entire story as a whole.

On the other hand, this figurine is consistently beautiful with all the other ones from the same set. Lacus's smiling face is very beautifully sculptured and painted, especially her pupils, but I would say the expression isn't as outstanding as the concerned look on Lunamaria's face on her figurine. Still, in this small scale, the design is already very good. The colors used for her dress and hair are very beautiful and comfortable to look at, which is very nice. ^^ And even though the overall design is simple-looking, the attention to details given is definitely there, evidenced by the different type of glossy yellow used for her hairpin, which help the small accessory to stand out more on an overall matte painted figure. That's just one of the many well designed parts, the tiny pen on the option right arm and detailed Haro autograph are very nicely done as well. ^^

So, while Lacus isn't my favorite female character from a Gundam show, this gashapon is a very well done figurine of her, one that I definitely like very much. ^^

IIRC Lacus dresses like this when she was trying to impersonate Meer and took her shuttle to go back to space (with Andrew Waltfeld disguises himself as an afro bodyguard XD), where she later stationed herself in the Eternal. I think.

It's kinda funny how in that scene it's the real person impersonating the imposter, rather than the other way round.

Trading figures are often overlooked but this one does look pretty good. Your favourite character is Cagalli right? ^^ Do you have a figure of her too from this particular series?
