BB Senshi Sangokuden Tenshouryu Koumei Nu Gundam Part 10

Flight of the Phoenix

Returning to BB Senshi Sangokuden Tenshouryu Koumei Nu Gundam after the review on Stella Loussier from MS Gundam Seed Destiny Heroines 3 gashapon set. ^^

Interestingly, Koumei Nu Gundam isn't going to show up for the most part in this posting, as the focus now shifts to his "bird" friend, Bakuousen (爆凰扇). ^^ Even more interestingly, much like Korinpaku (虎燐魄) from BB Senshi Sangokuden Gotaitei Sonken Gundam Korinpaku, Bakuousen can assembled as a completely separated kit. ^^

All parts of Bakuousen.

The main body of the phoenix is going to be a major connecting point for all the movable components, as you can tell from the five polycaps inserted inside it. ^^

Six foil stickers for the wing parts, which are obviously designed after Hi-Nu Gundam's Fin Funnels.

All components of Bakuousen.

The two tail halves connect to one another via interlocking tabs on the edge of the parts.

All done for Bakuousen. ^^

Unlike Gotaitei Sonken Gundam Korinpaku, I used most of the foil stickers included for the model kit.
Apparently, the major ones are for the wings. ^^

A very large model kit in its own rights, Bakuousen's wingspan reaches up till about 22cm. ^^

More images of the phoenix: ^^

Closeups on the details: ^^

In terms of articulation, Bakuousen moves just as well as Koumei Nu Gundam I would say. ^^

Separated hinge joints allow the head and neck to move.

Wide range of articulation for the wing via ball-type polycap parts.

A polycap between the two segments of wing works as an elbow-like joint for this component.

The two segments of tail are connected to the body via ball-type joints. Since they are connected in this Bakuousen form, only vertical tilt is possible with the entire tail.

Minor adjustment to the hips is possible thanks to the two ball-type polycaps in that component.
The feet should be movable as well, as least a little bit, but since the parts are coated with Gaia Metallic Color No. 122 Star Bright Gold (Part 1), they are pretty much fixed in position now. ^^;

Some simple action poses with Bakuousen:

With support using Soul Stage Act 3 Action Support Clear Type.

With Koumei Nu Gundam.

As you can see, Bakuousen is big enough for Koumei Nu Gundam to be posed rising on its back. ^^

Extra bonus for Bakuousen featuring the two clear green base parts mentioned in Part 8. ^^

The two peg joints on both ends of the tail can be used to mount the parts.

Bakuousen with effect parts for its tail. ^^

Between Bakuousen and Korinpaku (虎燐魄) from Gotaitei Sonken Gundam Korinpaku, I like the phoenix better actually. ^^ The first reason is personal bias for the golden paint effect on Bakuousen. ^^ I mentioned a few times in the past that I really like the outcome of Gaia Metallic Color No. 122 Star Bright Gold on this kit, so in terms of paintwork, I like the result I got on Bakuousen more.

Secondly, due to the transformation design, Korinpaku always feels like a mix match of armor parts to form a tiger to me. While it does move, theoretically very well in that aspect, the execution is not too well. It's structurally weak because of the part-swapping gimmick. Bakuousen on the other hand, doesn't suffer from this issue. Its transformation with Koumei Nu Gundam involves part-swapping, but not as extensive as Korinpaku with Sonken Gundam. So, as a support unit on its own, it feels more solid and that certainly improves its playability.

Speaking of transformation, the real highlight of this kit, the combination between Koumei Nu Gundam and Bakuousen to form the Tenshouryu form will be up next. ^^
