Gashapon MS Gundam Seed Destiny Heroines 7 Part 3

Captain Gladys

A review on another figurine from MS Gundam Seed Destiny Heroines gashapon set, the third one to be exact, after Lunamaria Hawke Type A and Lacus Clyne, which is also definitely my personal favorite from this entire set: Captain Talia Gladys ^^

A little bit of assembly required, as the figurine is being separated into a few parts.

The completed figurine of Captain Gladys, posed sitting on the captain's chair of Minerva perhaps?
It's actually a generic chair-type display base that is totally the same as the one for Captain Ramius in this gashapon set. ^^

More closeups on the figure:

The head can be turned to the sides to adjust the captain's viewpoints for a little bit of change in angle of display.

As compared to Lunamaria Hawke Type A and Lacus Clyne, Captain Gladys only comes with one option part that allows for just one alternate form display.

The hat-less option head part on the left .

Displayed with the option head part.

So far, it seems that Captain Gladys is the figurine in this gashapon set that is designed with the least gimmick, as compared to Lunamaria Hawke Type A and Lacus Clyne, but no worries, she won't be holding that record once the rest of the set is shown. ^^;

One of the many new characters in "Gundam SEED Destiny" (in the sense that many others are coming from its predecessor, "Gundam SEED"), Captain Gladys is the one that I find to be the least annoying. ^^; She is firm and strong throughout the entire series, saved for that unfortunate last minute suicidal decision. ^^; The first few episodes featuring the chase between Minerva under her command and Bogey-1 were still some of the best part of the entire series for me. For a while when I watched those episodes, out of the sense of similarity I felt comparing them to the initial stage of "Gundam SEED", I was feeling that she's so much better than Captain Ramius at the same stage. Comparing the two captains, Gladys showed a much greater sense of authority than Ramius.

Well, at least she didn't have a XO who likes to argue with the captain's decision all the time like Ramius had in "Gundam SEED". XD

Then again, like I said in the review for Lacus Clyne, it's the story design that decides how well the characters perform in an anime. It's painful to see how a powerful captain at the beginning of the show could go down for an unbelievably lame reason at the very last moment, but instead of blaming her, the story writing is to be blamed, as the same poor "fate" also happens to many other characters in the show.

On a separate note, the voice actress for Captain Gladys is another reason why I like her very much. She is voiced by Mami Koyama (小山茉美), a seiyuu with a distinctive low pitch that is perfect for voicing the roles of strong female characters. Apart from Captain Gladys, she also voiced Kycilia Zabi from the original Gundam series, Karen from "The 08th MS Team" and Balalaika from "Black Lagoon" - all very tough women. ^^

Like the previous two figurines, Captain Gladys is very well designed. While her uniform seems pretty plain, details of her gravity-defying hair (XD) and ZAFT emblems on her hat and left upper arm are nicely done, very accurate to the character design. The smile she wears is very beautiful to see as well. ^^ This is also a very unique figurine in my collection, since almost everybody else is posed standing. ^^ For Captain Gladys whom I remember best for commanding her ship on the bridge of Minerva, I don't think I would want any other pose for this figurine anyway. ^^

A great design for a character I like very much, definitely my pick as the best item from this gashapon set, even though another half of the set has yet to be reviewed. ^^

Good that even for gasaphon, it comes with optional parts. The standard of gasaphon had improved over time and they now looked more at candy toy or trading figures.
